The Home Of The Warders Of
The World Of The Wheel

Welcome to the home of the Tar Valon Warders.  Tar Valon is a site dedicated to the the enjoyment of role playing in the world of Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time.  This page is dedicated to the Warders, or Gaidin/Gaidar as they are referred to.  In the Old Tongue this mean "Brother/Sister to Battles", and the Warder's job is to protect the Aes Sedai.  When a warder bonds with an Aes Sedai, they receive certain gifts.  For one, they gain the ability to go for extended periods without food, water, or rest.  They also gain the ability to sense the Dark One's taint, but easily their most important gift is that of quick healing.  When a Warder dies, his Aes Sedai will know the exact moment, and manner, of his death.  Aside from this, the benefits of bonding for Aes Sedai are a closely held secret.  Bonding does have an obvious downside however.  When a Warder's bond-mate dies, they are left with a terrible emptiness inside.  Many Warders have succumbed to madness, or severe, irreparable depression upon the death of their bond-mate.

Every warrior who chooses the life of a Warder does so with the full understanding of what their life will entail.  Aside from protecting their Aes Sedai, a Warder must constantly be alert and looking for Shadowspawn.  On top of that, a Warder's training never ends.  They spend vast amounts of time in the Tower training fields, sparring with, and learning from, their comrades.  Every battle brings a new lesson, and the Warders of Tar Valon have learned to take these lessons to heart, for they could very well mean the difference between life and death.

This is not to say that a Warder is simply a warrior.  Warders are known to possess both intelligence and cunning.  They are skillful diplomats when they need to be, and their strategies on the battle field have won many a battle.  They are masters at spinning deceitful tales when the need for stealth arises.  In what spare time they have, Warders can be found doing anything from quietly poring over tomes of knowledge in the Tower libraries, to attending elegant balls, to enjoying the quiet of the Tower gardens.

As alluded to earlier, when it comes to a combat situation, there are none better than the Warders of Tar Valon.  Every Warder has a couple favourite weapons with which their skill excels, but on top of that they have at least a rudimentary skill with every weapon known.  They possess the ability to take anything they find in their travels and turn it into a weapon.  After all, a warrior needs to be prepared if they are disarmed, or their weapon breaks.  A warriors skill is best displayed through their knowledge, and use, of the forms that are generally attributed to their weapon.  In this site are listed the forms that are currently known, but astute warriors are creating their own maneuvers every day.  Click the links below to begin your training.  If you have a form of your own you wish to have added to the list, please e-mail it to me.

Walk in the light my friends.
